Neck Pain Relief in Santa Rosa, CA

Neck pain can make everyday activities surprisingly difficult. Looking over your shoulder while driving, working at a computer, sleeping, exercising, or simply holding your head upright can become frustrating when your neck feels stiff or painful.

Many people try stretching, massage, chiropractic care, physical therapy, or strengthening exercises, only to find the discomfort continues to return.

That's because the painful area isn't always the only area contributing to the problem.

Rather than focusing only on where your neck hurts, I assess how your neck, shoulders, chest, rib cage, upper back, jaw, and surrounding tissues move together to identify restrictions and compensation patterns that may be contributing to your symptoms.

My goal isn't simply to reduce neck pain, it's to help your body move more comfortably and efficiently so the neck pain doesn’t come back.

Why Does Neck Pain Keep Coming Back?

For many people, the muscles that feel tight aren't necessarily the ones creating the problem.

Hours spent working at a computer, looking down at a phone, driving, or sitting at a desk often place the shoulders in a rounded position.

Over time, the muscles across the front of the chest can become restricted, changing the position of the shoulders and limiting how the rib cage moves.

When that happens, the muscles in the neck often have to work harder simply to hold your head upright.

Restricted movement through the chest and rib cage can also change the way you breathe. As that happens, the muscles in the neck often begin assisting with breathing more than they were designed to, creating even more tension.

The neck isn't always the source of the problem, it's often the area working overtime to compensate.

That's one reason stretching your neck doesn't always create lasting change.

Rather than focusing only on where you feel pain, I assess how your neck, shoulders, chest, rib cage, upper back, jaw, and surrounding tissues move together to identify restrictions that may be contributing to your symptoms.

What Makes My Approach Different?

Many approaches to neck pain focus on stretching the neck muscles or working directly where you feel tension.

While those approaches can certainly help, they don't always explain why those muscles became overworked in the first place.

My approach also considers the superficial layer of connective tissue (skin and fascia) and how your neck works together with your shoulders, chest, rib cage, upper back, and jaw.

Healthy movement depends on all of these tissues being able to move and glide freely together.

For example, restricted chest muscles from hours spent sitting, driving, or looking at a computer can pull the shoulders forward, increasing the workload placed on the muscles of the neck. Likewise, restrictions through the rib cage, upper back, or jaw can all influence how your neck functions.

Rather than focusing only on where you feel pain, I assess how these areas move together to identify restrictions and compensation patterns that may be contributing to your symptoms.

The goal isn't simply temporary relief, it's to improve how your body moves.

A Common Question

"Why would you work on my chest if my neck hurts?"

Your neck doesn't move in isolation.

Every time you reach, breathe, turn your head, or simply maintain an upright posture, your neck works together with your shoulders, chest, rib cage, upper back, and jaw.

If one area isn't moving well, another area often compensates.

That's why your session may include areas beyond your neck. By improving how these areas move together, it's often possible to reduce unnecessary stress on the neck itself.

What Happens During Your Session?

Every session begins with understanding your story.

We'll discuss your symptoms, previous injuries, surgeries, activities, and the care you've already tried.

From there, I'll assess how your neck, shoulders, chest, rib cage, upper back, jaw, and surrounding tissues move together to identify restrictions and compensation patterns that may be contributing to your neck pain.

Depending on what I find during your movement assessment, your session may include Dermal-Fascial Restoration, Fascia Stretch Therapy, or a combination of both. The techniques I use are selected based on how your body moves—not from a predetermined routine.

Throughout the session, I continually reassess how your body responds so every session is tailored specifically to how your body moves.

What Does a Session Feel Like?

Every session is a little different because every body moves differently.

Depending on what we find during your assessment, your session may include a combination of techniques designed to address the movement restrictions contributing to your neck pain.

It's common to notice turning your head, looking over your shoulder, reaching overhead, or simply feeling less tension through your neck and shoulders immediately after your session. Others continue noticing changes over the following days as their body adapts to moving differently.

Rather than focusing only on temporary relief, my goal is to help your body move with greater ease, efficiency, and confidence.

Why Healthy Neck Movement Matters

Your neck has an important job.

It supports and positions your head while allowing you to look around, drive safely, work comfortably, exercise, and interact with the world around you.

When your neck has to compensate for restrictions elsewhere, those everyday activities often become more difficult and uncomfortable.

Helping your neck move well isn't simply about reducing pain.

It's about allowing your shoulders, chest, rib cage, and upper back to work together so your neck no longer has to do more than its share.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will you only work on my neck?

Not necessarily.

Depending on your movement assessment, your session may also include your shoulders, chest, rib cage, upper back, jaw, or other areas influencing how your neck moves.

Can this help headaches?

Some headaches are influenced by restrictions in the neck and surrounding tissues. If your headaches are related to movement restrictions, improving how those areas move may help. If your headaches have another cause, they may not respond in the same way. If you're unsure what's causing your headaches, it's important to discuss them with your healthcare provider.

Can this help if I've already tried massage, chiropractic care, or physical therapy?

Many of my clients have already tried other approaches before coming to see me.

Rather than focusing only on the painful area, I assess how your entire movement system functions to identify restrictions that may be contributing to your symptoms.

How many sessions will I need?

Every person is different.

Some people notice meaningful changes after one session, while others with longer-standing restrictions benefit from a series of sessions.

Your plan depends on your history, goals, and how your body responds.
